Dear Friends:

As we approach the solemn 70th anniversary of the 1942 deportation of the Jews from Bardejov in 2012, I want to let you know how you can become involved in becoming a part of the work we are doing to preserve the history of the pre-war Jewish residents of Bardejov, Slovakia. We invite you to come to Bardejov for a historic commemoration of the lives of the thousands of Jewish residents who were loaded onto trains in the fateful months of April through August of 1942. Survivors, descendents, and interested people will be gathering in Bardejov on May 15, 2012, and we invite you to join us.

This will be the second reunion trip to Bardejov that our non profit group, The Bardejov Jewish Preservation Committee, has arranged. In 2008 a group of survivors and their families visited the Jewish cemetery, and the Jewish communal buildings of Bardejov. They saw the restored cemetery which was the first project of this committee. The 2012 trip will hopefully provide participants with the exciting chance to stand in the reclaimed and restored old synagogue of the Jewish Suburbia. Work began on the preservation of that historic building last year.

We returned to Bardejov in early November of 2010. We met with the city officials of Bardejov. We saw with our own eyes the exciting progress being made on the restoration of the Old Synagogue and other elements of the Jewish Suburbia.
